In 2019, Finns purchased fishing management fees more actively than in the previous year. By the end of the year, more than 254,000 fisheries management fees were purchased, of which more than 180,000 were annual permits. Such proceeds from fishing licences will maintain fishing opportunities and the aquatic environment.

Finland stops using plastic fishing markers in its waters

18.12.2019

Metsähallitus, which manages state-owned waters in Finland, intends to eliminate the use of plastic in fishing traps. For many decades, fishers have attached a plastic marker to their traps in order to indicate payment of a fishing permit. The goal is to completely eliminate the use of plastic in the state-owned enterprise.

Metsähallitus recommends the fisheries management fee as an environmentally friendly Christmas gift

09.12.2019

If you intend to fish in Finland and you are between the ages of 18 and 64, you must pay the fisheries management fee. Payment of this fee is not required if you are only ice fishing, hook and line fishing or fishing with a simple herring rig. As Christmas approaches, Metsähallitus would like to remind people that, in contrast to a material gift, the fisheries management fee is not a burden on nature but an investment in the well-being of nature, people and society. Proceeds from the fee are used, for example, to manage fishing waters and fish stocks.
