Exceptionally, bookings for the reservation and rental huts maintained by National Parks Finland for the year 2025 can only be made starting from the beginning of November 2024. Next year's hut reservations will be made in the updated Eräluvat.fi service. In the future, the descriptions of the reservation and rental huts will also be found in the same place.  After the revamp, hut keys will be available at on-site key cabinets, and separate key pick-up locations will no longer be used.

"The 2025 reservations are made directly in the new sales system. Customers will be informed of the code to the key box when booking. When planning excursions, it is also worth considering other accommodation options, such as camping, lean-to shelters and accommodation options offered by our partner entrepreneurs," says Service Owner Katja Heikkinen from Metsähallitus.

Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland maintains approximately 150 reservable huts and rental huts for hikers in national parks, other nature conservation areas and wilderness areas. The huts are primarily intended for temporary overnight stays during excursions.

Read hut and destination descriptions carefully before your trip

The Nationalparks.fi online service contains important information about the destination, the challenge level of the trails and what to pack. Some of Metsähallitus' huts are located outside the reach of roads, especially in the northern and eastern parts of Finland.

In addition to reservable and rental huts, hikers are offered free day trip huts and wilderness huts. It is also possible to stay in your own tent or similar at marked campsites. Day trip huts are meant for hikers to use during daytime, and they are not for staying overnight except for in exceptional circumstances. Wilderness huts are for private persons who are hiking, skiing or otherwise arriving there by means of their own efforts to use as a temporary place of rest or for staying overnight.

The rental huts are primarily intended for the use of private persons. Large groups must take other visitors into account. The use of service structures for business always requires a cooperation agreement and the payment of user compensation.  It is recommended that large unguided visitor groups stay in their own tents or reservable huts during overnight stays.
