At the turn of the year, five large angling permit areas will be redistributed into 52 new permit areas. In addition, the boundaries of trap fishing permit areas will be revised. All trap fishing permits for 2025 and permits for the large angling areas must be purchased no later than 30 November 2025.

Metsähallitus announces the application period for commercial fishing permits in the Northern Lapland region for the years 2026–2028 and in other parts of Finland for the years 2026–2030. Permits should primarily be applied for electronically via the Eräluvat.fi service between September 15 and October 10, 2025, 4:15 PM.

The rapids Kellankoski and Kärnänkoski, part of the Kolima–Keitele rapids route in Viitasaari, have been successfully restored during August. The permit sales interruptions caused by the restoration work are now over.

On Tuesday, August 19, the final interruption caused by the summer heat ends, as permits for Langinkoski become available again. Only Kärnänkoski on the Kolima–Keitele route remains closed due to restoration work.

The cool summer has turned into a heatwave, and water temperatures are rising rapidly. Warm waters are stressful for salmonids, and they may not recover after being released. Metsähallitus therefore recommends avoiding fishing for salmonids and instead targeting species that tolerate heat better.
