Fishing suspended at some destinations due to warm water temperatures – check the status of fishing sites

The warm summer weather is rapidly increasing water temperatures. Warm water conditions are stressful for salmonid fish, and they may not recover after being released. Metsähallitus therefore recommends avoiding salmonid fishing in waters where temperatures exceed 21°C. At present, fishing has been completely suspended at five destinations. The situation will be reviewed again on Monday, 20 July.

Eräluvat customer service closed on 26–27 May

Eräluvat telephone service will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Emails will be received as usual while customer service is closed, and they will be answered starting from Thursday, 28 May.

Fishing permit areas renewed: learn about the changes

At the turn of the year, five large angling permit areas were redistributed into 52 new permit areas. In addition, the boundaries of trap fishing permit areas were revised.

Huts

Selkälahti and Keimiöjärvi rental huts to be withdrawn from use

The Selkälahti and Keimiöjärvi rental huts will be withdrawn from use from the beginning of 2027. The sites can be booked in the Eräluvat.fi service until 31 December 2026.

Inaccuracies in Upper Lapland fishing area maps – corrections coming in May

There may be inaccuracies in the map windows and PDF maps of angling permit areas located in Enontekiö, Inari and Utsjoki, and the permit areas are not shown correctly in all respects. The errors will be corrected during May.

Fishing arrangements at Lake Matildanjärvi change in April 2026

Metsähallitus ended the stocking of rainbow trout in Lake Matildanjärvi, located in Teijo National Park, at the end of 2025. However, the sale of fishing permits and supervision has continued as usual until the end of March 2026. Starting from April 2026, fishing at Matildanjärvi will be allowed under general fishing rights, meaning hook and line fishing, ice fishing, and fishing with one rod and lure (e.g. spinning) after paying the fisheries management fee. In the future, fishing will be based on the lake’s natural fish stocks.
