7614 Siera-Yöttäjä

The peaceful hunting area of Siera-Yöttäjä consists of five different areas, which are located a short drive away from each other. The location is mainly forestry land, but there are also more untouched areas and several large open mire areas. The area is a patchwork of hills and mounds, rivers, and lakes, as well as of heaths, drained mires and open mires.

Keep in mind in this area

There are hunting restrictions in this permit area.

  • The Raesärkkä and Piilopirtinaho-Marjomäki Nature Reserves (140/2021 Finnish Government Decree on the nature reserves of the province of North Karelia) are located in the hunting area. Also, the Pahavaara Nature Reserve (140/2021 Finnish Government Decree on the nature reserves of the province of North Karelia) is located in the hunting area. In these areas, hunting is restricted in terms of game species and hunting seasons. The areas are marked on the permit area map.

  • On the northern shore of Lake Ylä-Keyritty is the camping and course centre Metsäkartano, on the environs of which many hikers move; therefore, avoid hunting in the vicinity of Metsäkartano's routes and structures. 

  • The small predator permit includes restrictions on keeping a dog off-leash.

The area is partially bordered by the Finnish Defense Forces’ Sotinpuro shooting range. You can find up‑to‑date information on current and upcoming shooting exercises at puolustusvoimat.fi

During shooting times, parts of the road network, especially in the vicinity of Lake Yöttäjä, is closed with booms. However, the hunting area is not part of the safety zone, so it is accessible. The northwest side of Lake Yöttäjänjärvi is best accessed directly via Matomäki. More information can be obtained during shootings from the security officer, tel. +358 299 451 871. The Finnish Defense Forces is not responsible for possible damage to hunting dogs moving in the shooting area. Iisalmi armoury also carries out explosions at Sotinpuro.
