Karvionkoski 7561

The Karvionkoski Rapids, roaring between the large route waters of Lake Suvasvesi and Lake Kermajärvi, are 1.5 kilometres of pure angling bliss. Most of the permit area consists of evenly flowing waters, but one can also experience the thrill of white waters by the channel of Karvio. Karvionkoski is 50 km away from Varkaus and 70 km away from Joensuu.

The fish stocks at Karvionkoski are based on both fry stockings and natural reproduction. At Karvionkoski, a lucky angler has the chance to catch a large brown or freshwater trout that has migrated into the lakes.

Protection periods have been implemented to guard the spawning of trout and salmon and the pressure on naturally born migratory fish is reduced by making the release of such fish mandatory.

You can check the real-time temperature of the water in Karvionkoski during the snow-free season in the SensorMonitor service (map.sensormonitor.fi).

When trolling from a rowboat, an angler may use at maximum of two (2) rods, each one with a single line.

one treble hook,
one double hook and one single hook or

Only barbless hooks are permitted.

The maximum number of fish that an angler may catch is indicated in the table below:

permit validity Maximum catch
6 hours 1 salmonid without adipose fin
12 hours 1 salmonid without adipose fin
24 hours 2 salmonids without adipose fin of which 1 may be landlocked salmon without adipose fin

In this quota table, salmonid means brown trout and landlocked salmon. There is no fishing quota limit for other fish species.

The 24-hour catch quota cannot be increasing by purchasing several permits for the same 24-hour period. For example, three 6-hour permits does not entitle the permit holder to catch three brown trout within a 24-hour period.

Catch sizes and protection periods

The following catch sizes and protection periods for fish species are in effect for this permit area:

Fish species Catch size Protection period
Landlocked salmon with adipose fin All sizes of fish must be released Protected throughout the year
Brown trout with adipose fin All sizes of fish must be released Protected throughout the year

Water temperature has a significant impact on the survival of salmonids after they are released. When water temperatures approach +20 °C, you should use judgement before you decide to fish for salmonids. In waters warmer than this, fishing for salmonids should be avoided. In such situations, it is advisable to focus on species that are more resistant to heat, such as zander, pike and perch. See guidelines for responsible fishing.
