A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.

The terms of reservation for short-term rental facilities managed by Parks & Wildlife Finland (including reservable and rental huts, bookable saunas and cooking shelters) are being updated. The hut is located close to the Sammakkotammi car park (Valtimontie 1095, Rautavaara, Road no. 87). From the Pohjoisniemi car park (Kajaanintie 1655, Road no. 870, followed by approximately 2 km along a forest road to the car park), the walking distance to the hut is about 10 km along the Tiilikan kierto hiking trail.
The western section of the Tiilikan kierto trail includes a strait crossing of approximately 150 metres, which requires rowing skills. The crossing may not always be possible due to weather conditions, such as strong winds.
Signposts to Tiilikkajärvi National Park and the Sammakkotammi car park are located along the Joensuu–Kajaani road (Road no. 18) and the Rautavaara–Savikylä road (Road no. 87).
The nearest bus connection is to Rautavaara, from where the distance to the national park is approximately 15 km.
Read more about the area and more detailed arrival instructions on Luontoon.fi.
In the yard there is a campfire site, a dry toilet and a composter, which are available for all hikers. There is a woodshed at the end of the hut.
Camping and any other form of accommodation in the yard area are not permitted.
The key is in a key code box on the site's wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.
The hut is heated with a gas heater. Instructions for using the appliances can be found in the cabin folder.
Lighting and a 12 V charging socket powered by solar energy are available (requires your own cigarette‑lighter adapter).
There is no mains electricity at the hut. We recommend bringing a head torch, which leaves your hands free for tasks inside the hut. For safety reasons, burn candles only on a non‑flammable surface and never leave them unattended.
A gas stove and a gas refrigerator are provided, along with cooking equipment such as pots, a coffee pot, knives and ladles, as well as cutlery and crockery.
There is no running water in the hut, and there is no well in the yard.
It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.
See tips on how to obtain safe drinking water on a hike (luontoon.fi).
Sleeping places for two people, with mattresses, blankets and pillows provided.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
There is a dry toilet near the site. Please bring your own toilet paper.
There are no waste containers by the site. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (luontoon.fi).
The rental hut does not have accessible services.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
Huts are equipped with smoke detectors, but we recommend that you bring your own smoke detector. An increasing number of huts have smoke detectors with long-life batteries that cannot be replaced by visitors. The battery is replaced by the hut maintenance staff.
Each user of the site is responsible for keeping the site clean. The site does not have regular maintenance.
Please note that Metsähallitus sites are wilderness‑like and modest, and the indoor areas may contain, for example, insects, rodents, and their droppings.
