Mahlad / Mahlatti rental hut is located in a wilderness area of Lake Inari. Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. The hut is the Border Guard's former control point. It is located on a small island on the northern side of Mahlatti, which is the largest island in Lake Inarijärvi. The hut is suitable for hikers, fishers and holidaymakers.
A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.

Every fishing and hunting area and hut has a page with a map window that shows the location of the destination. In case of permit areas, you can see the borders of the area. Did you know that you can choose what and how information is displayed on the map?
The closest village Ivalo, where you will find all basic amenities, is at a distance of 23 km.
The distance from Veskoniemi to the cabin is 10 km by boat and 23 km in winter by snowmobile from Ivalo.
The Inari - Ivalo snowmobile track runs at a distance of 3 km from the cabin.
The boat route runs between the islands of Mahlatti and Petäjäsaari at a distance of about 0.5 km from the cabin.

A sauna, a firewood shed, a campfire site and a dry toilet.
There is a good jetty on the shore but no official swimming spot.
Also a fish smoking container.
The key is in a key code box on the hut wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.
The hut has a wood-burning stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has a solar panel, but as the sunlight decreases, its power decreases.
We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
A gas stove, a gas oven, a gas refrigerator and a fish smoking container.
There is no running water in the hut.
Household water is taken from the lake. It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.
See tips on how to obtain safe drinking water on a hike (Nationalparks.fi).

There are waste containers by the cabin but visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
The nearest recycling points are at the Inari parish or Veskoniemi boat harbours.
The hut is located in a reindeer herding area, take into account the free-grazing reindeer and keep your dog on a leash.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
