The main building of Luutsaari rental cabin, with a 1960s atmosphere (2 rooms and a kitchen), is located on a hilltop island by Lake Isojärvi. You can reach it via a forest trail or by rowing boat. The stunning lake view and the warmth of the masonry stove guarantee a nostalgic summer cottage feel. The cabin sits next to a lakeside meadow. The sauna is located on the shore of Lake Isojärvi. In summer, the site is a popular destination for shepherd weeks. There are also other cabins on the island, some within view.

The rental cabin is an overnight accommodation that is rented entirely for private use.

Reservations

Before reservation

  • Creating a user account is worthwhile. As a logged-in customer, you do not need to pay for your reservation immediately. You can also cancel unpaid reservations yourself. Create a user account.

  • Tip: If you reserve huts for multiple trips, make separate orders for each trip. This way, you can choose to pay for each trip's reservation only 14 days before the start of the reservation. Changes won't be made to reservations made from May 5, 2025.

After reservation

  • The reservation day for shared rental huts, rental huts and other rental structures begins at 2 pm and ends at 12 noon.

  • Bring along your invoice and proof of payment to the hut. Check the information related to keys in the "Keys" section (located halfway down the page).

  • By following the hut etiquette, you ensure that the use of hut is smooth. Learn about the hut etiquette (luontoon.fi).

Notes for entrepreneurs

  • A foreign company can place an order in the company's name only as an unregistered customer.

Arrival instructions

From Highway 9

Turn towards Hämepohja from Highway 9. Drive 2.4 km and turn left onto Ouninpohjantie. Continue for 5.1 km and turn right onto Niinijärventie. The road passes through a yard area — drive carefully! After 3 km, keep to the right (the left turn leads to a private house). At the "No entry" sign, continue for another 450 m (note: Metsähallitus is a co-owner of the road). Turn right onto Tohvelahdentie and drive approx. 400 m. Then turn right again and drive 250 m to the Tohvelahden boat landing, where you can leave your car.

From the parking area, a walking path leads to Luutsaari (approx. 800 m). Start walking towards the visible house, with the lake on your left. You have the right of way through the yard. After the house, the road turns into a trail. Cross a stone bridge, walk through a small island, and cross a wooden bridge. After the wooden bridge, the trail leads directly to the Luutsaari rental cabin.

From Highway 24

North of the Kuhmoinen town center, turn left from Highway 24 following signs to Isojärvi National Park, onto road 3291. Drive 3.5 km and turn left onto Kylämäntie (3284). Continue approx. 22 km and turn right onto Ouninpohjantie. After about 4 km, you’ll reach the Hämepohja junction — continue straight (stay on Ouninpohjantie) and follow the directions above.

By Public Transport

The nearest bus stops to the national park are in Länkipohja (14 km) and Kuhmoinen (17 km).

For more details and maps, visit Luontoon.fi.

Yard

  • In the yard, there is a table with benches and several buildings, including a dry toilet. The vegetation in the yard is somewhat overgrown.

  • A trail to the Luutsaari fishing hut passes through the yard, so occasional hikers may walk through the area.

  • Behind the house are sheep pastures, which also provide access to the lakeshore and sauna.

  • Next to the sauna, there is a rowing boat (with life jackets for four adults and two children), a pier, and a small campfire site for renters to use.

  • Swimming is possible from the pier by the sauna. A better swimming spot is located at the fishing hut, about 300 meters away. However, there is no official beach.

  • Renters are allowed to camp in the yard.

Keys

  • The key is in a key code box on the hut wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.

  • Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.

Facilities

Heating and lighting

  • The cabin is heated by a baking oven in the main room, a masonry stove in the bedroom, and a wood-burning stove in the kitchen. Additionally, there are two electric radiators. Please note that warming up the cabin takes time.

  • The cabin has electricity and electric lighting.

  • Remember to pack a flashlight. We recommend a headlamp, which keeps your hands free for tasks. For safety reasons, always place candles on a non-flammable surface and never leave them unattended.

Cooking

The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove and oven, an American-style refrigerator with a freezer compartment of approximately 30 litres, a coffee maker, dishes, and cutlery.

Drinking water

  • The water from the yard well is not suitable for household use.

  • Drinking water is available from the spring well in Tohvelahde, located about 1 km away by foot or rowing. The spring water has been tested and must be boiled before drinking (18 September 2025).

Staying overnight

  • Mattresses, pillows, and blankets for six people are provided. There is also a crib with a mattress and blanket for a child.

  • Please bring your own bed linen or a sleeping bag, and towels.

Sauna

  • Wood-heated sauna by the shore of Lake Isojärvi.

Toilet

There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.

Waste disposal

There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.

Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).

Other things to keep in mind

  • There are private summer cottages next to the property. The nearest one is right next door and within view.

  • Angling is allowed under everyman's rights. Other types of fishing must follow the Finnish Fishing Act (Western Finland region).

  • The cabin is not accessible for people with reduced mobility.

  • Please clean the cabin before you leave.

Safety

There may be areas with limited mobile phone coverage in the outdoors. In such cases, moving to higher or more open ground may help. Check the coverage map of your mobile operator before your trip.

The cabins are equipped with smoke detectors, but we recommend bringing a 9V battery and/or your own travel smoke detector.
