The Ilomantsi permit area is a hunting area which year after year remains one of the most popular hunting areas in North Karelia. It is formed from two different sub-areas. Small game hunters primarily seek grouse in the area, but it is also favored by those hunting Canadian beaver. The landscape is characterized by hills, larger and smaller rivers and lakes, pine forests, drained peatlands, and open swamp areas. The area is mostly commercial forest, but there are also more untouched areas. All large predators are regularly present in the area.

The wording of the terms is clarified, and the new structure better reflects the customer journey in the Eräluvat.fi service. The terms also specify how and where customers can place an order, how they benefit from logging in during the ordering process, and whom to contact in case of problems or changes.
There are hunting restrictions in this permit area.
The Koirajoki Nature Conservation Area and Viitalandensuo Nature Conservation Area are located within the hunting area. In these areas, hunting is restricted in terms of game species and hunting seasons.
Check the restrictions carefully in the permit terms and on the area map.
Bridge repair work is being carried out within the permit area. The repair work affects movement within the area.
Asumajoki Bridge, Koidanvaarantie: The bridge will be under repair from 15 May to 30 September 2026. No detour is available.
This permit area is limited to the border zone in the east, where hunting is prohibited. Pay particular attention to letting the dog go near the border zone. Stop and catch the dog immediately if it moves towards the border when chasing game. A permit is always required for visiting the border zone.
