Guonjarjohka / Kuonjarjoki shared rental hut is a demanding wilderness destination. Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. The hut is located on an open fell in the Käsivarsi Wilderness Reserve, approximately a 20 km hike or ski from Kilpisjärvi. The hut is situated south of the Kahperusvaara Hills on the north bank of the River Kuonjarjoki which runs between the Kahperusvaara Hills and Guonjarvárri Fell.  The hut is suitable for hikers and skiers on Nordkalott Trail. The building also houses an open wilderness hut for 10 persons.

Ski touring season runs from March to April. In the summer, the recommended time for hiking is from the beginning of July to the beginning of September.

A shared rental hut is a reservable place for an overnight stay where you can book a paid bed for 1–2 nights.

Terms of reservation for huts

Reservations

Before reservation

Creating a user account is worthwhile. As a logged-in customer, you do not need to pay for your reservation immediately. You can also cancel unpaid reservations yourself. Create a user account.
Tip: If you reserve huts for multiple trips, make separate orders for each trip. This way, you can choose to pay for each trip's reservation only 14 days before the start of the reservation. Changes won't be made to reservations made from May 5, 2025.

After reservation

The reservation day for shared rental huts and rental huts begins at 2 pm and ends at 12 noon.
Bring along your invoice and proof of payment to the hut.

Attention entrepreneurs

A foreign company can place an order in the company's name only as an unregistered customer.
The use of the hut and other structures for business operations requires a permit from Metsähallitus. Learn about transfer of rights of use (metsa.fi).
Reservable huts are meant for those travelling by foot, skis or other means of physical movement (not motorized vehicles).
Hiking and skiing groups of partner entrepreneurs can book reservation huts year-round with the following restrictions
- 5 groups during the summer season from June 1st to October 31st
- 5 groups during the winter season from November 1st to May 30th

Arrival instructions

The hut is approximately a 20 km hike or ski from Kilpisjärvi.
The nearest other shared rental huts are Saarijärvi and Megonjávri / Meekonjärvi.

Yard

There is a dry toilet and woodshed outside the hut.
There is a drying room between the two huts.
You can camp near the hut.

Keys

The key is in a key code box on the hut wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.

Facilities

Heating and lighting

The hut has a stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.

Cooking

A gas stove and basic cookware (pot, frying pan, coffee pot).

Drinking water

There is no running water in the hut.
It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.

Staying overnight

Bunk beds, matresses, blankets and pillows.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
A shared rental hut is a shared overnight accommodation where hikers sleep in the same space, usually shoulder-to-shoulder in bunk beds.

Toilet

There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.

Waste disposal

There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.

Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).

Other things to keep in mind

The firewood is intended for heating huts. Making campfires outdoors is prohibited if the hut does not have an official campfire site.
Please clean the hut before you leave.

Safety

Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
