Reservations

Tips for a smooth booking

  • Create a customer account and make your reservations as a logged‑in customer. Read more about the benefits of a customer account.

  • Pay for your order by the due date. A paid order cannot be modified. Read more about the terms of reservation.

  • Make all reservations under the same order if you book several huts or other sites for the same trip. According to the reservation terms, the minimum refundable amount per order is €30.

  • Make reservations under separate orders if you book huts or other sites for several different trips. Managing separate reservations is easier, and you will receive a separate due date for each one, 14 days before the start of the reservation.

Notes for all bookers

  • The reservation day for shared rental huts, rental huts and other rental structures begins at 2 pm and ends at 12 noon.

  • Keep the order confirmation of your paid reservation with you. Check the information related to keys in the "Keys" section (located halfway down the page).

  • By following the hut etiquette, you ensure that the use of hut is smooth. Learn about the hut etiquette (luontoon.fi).

Notes for corporate customers

  • A foreign company can place an order in the company's name only as an unregistered customer.

  • When a company regularly takes its customers to destinations with hiking infrastructure maintained by Metsähallitus, it must have a cooperation agreement. Read more in the information bank for entrepreneurs.

Arrival instructions

On foot

  • The hut is located close to the Sammakkotammi car park (Valtimontie 1095, Rautavaara, Road no. 87). From the Pohjoisniemi car park (Kajaanintie 1655, Road no. 870, followed by approximately 2 km along a forest road to the car park), the walking distance to the hut is about 10 km along the Tiilikan kierto hiking trail.

  • The western section of the Tiilikan kierto trail includes a strait crossing of approximately 150 metres, which requires rowing skills. The crossing may not always be possible due to weather conditions, such as strong winds.

Directions by car

  • Signposts to Tiilikkajärvi National Park and the Sammakkotammi car park are located along the Joensuu–Kajaani road (Road no. 18) and the Rautavaara–Savikylä road (Road no. 87).

By public transport

  • The nearest bus connection is to Rautavaara, from where the distance to the national park is approximately 15 km.

Read more about the area and more detailed arrival instructions on Luontoon.fi.

Yard

  • In the yard there is a campfire site, a dry toilet and a composter, which are available for all hikers. There is a woodshed at the end of the hut.

  • Camping and any other form of accommodation in the yard area are not permitted.

Keys

  • The key is in a key code box on the site's wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.

  • Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.

Facilities

Heating and lighting

  • The hut is heated with a gas heater. Instructions for using the appliances can be found in the cabin folder.

  • Lighting and a 12 V charging socket powered by solar energy are available (requires your own cigarette‑lighter adapter).

  • There is no mains electricity at the hut. We recommend bringing a head torch, which leaves your hands free for tasks inside the hut. For safety reasons, burn candles only on a non‑flammable surface and never leave them unattended.

Cooking

A gas stove and a gas refrigerator are provided, along with cooking equipment such as pots, a coffee pot, knives and ladles, as well as cutlery and crockery.

Drinking water

Staying overnight

  • Sleeping places for two people, with mattresses, blankets and pillows provided.

  • Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.

Toilet

There is a dry toilet near the site. Please bring your own toilet paper.

Waste disposal

There are no waste containers by the site. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.

Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (luontoon.fi).

Other things to keep in mind

  • The rental hut does not have accessible services.

  • Please clean the hut before you leave.

Safety

  • Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.

  • Huts are equipped with smoke detectors, but we recommend that you bring your own smoke detector. An increasing number of huts have smoke detectors with long-life batteries that cannot be replaced by visitors. The battery is replaced by the hut maintenance staff.
