Urho Kekkonen National Park 1563

In the Urho Kekkonen National Park streams several rivers namely Kiertämäoja, Anterijoki and Jaurujoki. The Rivers Repojoki, Luirojoki and Kopsujoki that run south of the national park are also included in the permit. More detailed information about the fishing destination and its protected and limited zones may be found on the fishing area map. Muorravaarakka and Kulasjoki are protected throughout the year.

Luttojoki, Suomujoki and Kolmosjoki has own permit, number 1568.

NB! Due to its bad condition, construction work might take place at the bridge crossing River Kulasjoki. The construction work might begin already during the open water season of 2019. Details will be published as soon as more information is available.

All persons under 18 years of age receive a 50% discount on the permits and persons under 15 years of age are allowed to share the same fishing quota, with the permission of their parent or legal guardian. The family permit costs twice as much and its fishing quota is twice as large.

Metsähallitus' fishing licences may also be purchased by phone. The service is open on
weekdays from 9 AM to 4 PM.

Regional licensing terms

Throughout the year with the exception of the upper reaches of the rivers Luttojoki, Kolmosjoki, Suomujoki and Anterijoki where fishing is only permitted from 16 June to 31 August. In other river and stream waters fishing is prohibited between 1 September and 30 November.
  • Once you have finished fishing, you must submit a catch report at www.tuikki.fi. All caught and released fish must also be reported.
  • FLY FISHING AREAS (fly without weights): Luttojoki River (from Kulasjokisuu to Kattajokisuu), Suomujoki River (from Snelmanninmaja to Luttojoki). The fly fishing areas are marked with green on the map. In the terrain, the fly fishing areas are marked with signs.
  • The permit does not include the two private water areas in the Kopsujoki River.
  • Fishing is prohibited in the rivers Kulasjoki and Muorravaarakkajoki and the main channels of the rivers Sarvioja and Harrijoki that run into Muorravaarakkajoki. In Anterijoki, fishing is prohibited downstream of the Anterinmukka Cabin. Fishing in the border zone is prohibited.
  • Fishing in the upper reaches of the rivers Luttojoki, Kolmosjoki, Suomujoki and Anterijoki is only permitted from 16 June to 31 August.
  • In other river and stream waters fishing is prohibited between 1 September and 30 November.
  • While in the Urho Kekkonen National Park, the park's regulations must be adhered to at all times.
  • Hiking in the Repoaapa, Pajuaapa and Lamminaapa mire areas is prohibited between 15 May and 15 July. More information on the rules and regulations of the Urho Kekkonen National Park may be found here.
  • Use of motor boats is prohibited in the Urho Kekkonen National Park.
  • Before fishing in waters that run into the Arctic Ocean (rivers Luttojoki, Suomujoki, Anterijoki and Jaurujoki and their tributaries), one must disinfect all fishing gear to prevent the spreading of the parasite gyrodactylys salaris.
  • Fishing gear brought in from outside of Ylä-Lappi (Upper Lapland) must be absolutely dry as they arrive or they must be disinfected at a disinfection station.
  • Disinfection stations: There are 15 permit vendors with a disinfection station in the Tenojoki area and at the Näätämö river the disinfection station is situated in the Skolt Sámi Heritage House in Sevettijärvi. In Inari the station is situated in the fish harbour. More information on how and why fishing gear must be disinfected can be found from the Lapland ELY Centre and on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
  • The use of a bait fish in hook & line fishing, ice fishing or lure fishing is absolutely forbidden in the municipalities of Upper Lapland (e.g., the Tulomajoki water system: Luttojoki, Suomujoki, Anterijoki and Jaurujoki Rivers and their tributaries) as per a Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (no. 1376/2004, 31.12.2004).

  • Trash-free hiking helps prevent waste! In recent years, Metsähallitus has been concentrating the waste management of wilderness destinations to waste management stations, or eco stations, situated along the roads leading to the destinations. Rest stops now have fewer garbage bins and Metsähallitus has increased its waste awareness work. Anglers and hikers are responsible for bringing their own trash and waste back to the eco stations.
