Uittipiekka shared rental hut is suitable for independent hikers with good navigation skills, located in Sorvorttajoki valley in the Kemihaara wilderness area with no marked trails. There is an open wilderness hut on the other end of the building. In the yard, there is a sauna (used by both those staying at the open wilderness hut and those at the shared rental hut) with duckboards to a brook. Also a campfire site, a woodshed, and a dry toilet.
A shared rental hut is a reservable place for an overnight stay where you can book a paid bed for 1–2 nights.
Creating a user account is worthwhile. As a logged-in customer, you do not need to pay for your reservation immediately. You can also cancel unpaid reservations yourself. Create a user account.
Tip: If you reserve huts for multiple trips, make separate orders for each trip. This way, you can choose to pay for each trip's reservation only 14 days before the start of the reservation. Changes won't be made to reservations made from May 5, 2025.
Ensure a safe trip to the hut. Read the checklist.
The reservation day for shared rental huts and rental huts begins at 2 pm and ends at 12 noon.
Bring along your invoice and proof of payment to the hut.
By following the hut etiquette, you ensure that the use of hut is smooth. Learn about the hut etiquette (luontoon.fi).
A foreign company can place an order in the company's name only as an unregistered customer.

Every fishing and hunting area and hut has a page with a map window that shows the location of the destination. In case of permit areas, you can see the borders of the area. Did you know that you can choose what and how information is displayed on the map?
There are no marked trails to reach the hut. You need good navigation skills and must always have a paper map and a compass with you.
The hut is accessible only by foot or by skiing. Use of motor vehicles in the area is prohibited.
During the snow-free season, the shortest route to Uittipiekka hut is via Lokka. From Lokka, drive towards the River Pihtijoki, turn right at Mukkajoenrova and continue all the way to Taltukkaselkä. The cross-country hike from this point to the hut is 6 km.
Alternatively, you can approach the hut from Savukoski direction. Turn left at Ruuvaoja, drive past the north side of Nivatunturi Fell towards Marjavaara and continue to the foot of Sorvortantunturi Fell. From here, the cross-country hike to the hut is 9 km.
The roads are forest roads that may be in poor condition.
In winter, you can reach Uittipiekka on skis from Kemihaara direction, where you will find the nearest road that is kept open. The distance to the hut from Kemihaara is approx. 23 km (no marked or maintained trails). Travelling to the hut by motor vehicles is prohibited.
Read more about the area and more detailed arrival instructions on Nationalparks.fi.
A sauna, a campfire site, a dry toilet and a wood shed.
The key is in a key code box on the hut wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.
The hut has a stove and firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has no electricity. We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
Gas stove and necessary cooking utensils (a pot, a frying pan).
Bring your own utensils and tableware.
There is no running water in the hut.
Water is taken from a brook, boil before use. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.
See tips on how to obtain safe drinking water on a hike (Nationalparks.fi).
Bunkbeds with mattresses, pillows and blankets.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
A shared rental hut is a shared overnight accommodation where hikers sleep in the same space, usually shoulder-to-shoulder in bunk beds.
The sauna is in a separate building.
The sauna fee is 10 € /person. The payment can be made at Eraluvat.fi. Sauna fees include 25,5% VAT.
The sauna is available for both shared rental hut and open wilderness hut guests who have paid the sauna fee. Please note that it takes some time before the sauna is properly warm.
Remember to empty all the water containers and buckets before you leave. This is important especially in winter time as they will break if water freezes in them.
There is a dry toilet near the hut. Please bring your own toilet paper.
There are no waste containers by the cabin. Visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (nationalparks.fi).
There are no accessible services in the hut.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
The area has limited or no mobile phone network coverage. Be prepared that a mobile phone can not be used. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
There are fire alarms at wilderness huts, but we recommend to bring a 9 V battery and/or your own travel fire alarm with you.
