Martinselkonen is a protected area bordering the eastern border, where you can find old wildwood of Kainuu in their natural state. The area is especially suitable for hunting with a bird dog that marks catch by barking. Game populations are usually not very abundant in old forests, but the area itself provides plenty of experiences.
Always take reindeer herding into account when hunting with a dog in this area. Please read the instructions under section Reindeer herding on this page.

The wording of the terms is clarified, and the new structure better reflects the customer journey in the Eräluvat.fi service. The terms also specify how and where customers can place an order, how they benefit from logging in during the ordering process, and whom to contact in case of problems or changes.
The hunting area includes the Martinselkonen Nature Reserve.
Campfires are only permitted at specific campfire sites.

This permit area is limited to the border zone in the east, where moving and hunting always require a separate permit from the Finnish Border Guard. Pay particular attention to letting the dog go near the border zone. Stop and catch the dog immediately if it moves towards the border when chasing game. Hunting arrangements in northern Finland differ from those in the rest of the country: local residents have the right to hunt freely on state-owned land in their home municipality. In northern Finland, hunters must also ensure that hunting does not cause harm to reindeer.
