Lemmenjoki is Finland's largest national park. In addition to the main park area, the national park contains extensive wilderness areas that lie primarily on the north and south side of Lemmenjoki River. Most of the waters in the permit area are situated in the main park section and the wilderness on the north side of the river. The permit area contains both running waters and small lakes. The area includes tributaries of Lemmenjoki, including Máttit Ravadas and Searitjoki, and the headwaters of the Rivers Vaskojoki and Postijoki, among other destinations. Please note that there is a separate angling permit area for the Lemmenjoki River (1509).
Grayling is a popular catch at Lemmenjoki, but trout can also be caught in the area's lakes. In addition to grayling and trout, pike and perch are also commonly found. The lakes and ponds near the wilderness hut of Vaskolompolo are home to especially sizable grayling.
1 January–31 December. The river and stream waters are protected between 1 September and 30 November, so fishing is prohibited during that time.

Every fishing and hunting area and hut has a page with a map window that shows the location of the destination. In case of permit areas, you can see the borders of the area. Did you know that you can choose what and how information is displayed on the map?
The number of angling permits is limited. Please check the availability of permits beforehand.
You can find the fishing regulations for the Inari fisheries area on the Inari fisheries area’s website (inarinkalatalousalue.fi) (in Finnish).
The need for an angling permit depends on the type of waterbody and how many rods and lures you will use.
In this permit area, you will need an angling permit when lure fishing in sections with rapids and running water. You will also be required to pay the fisheries management fee, unless you are under 18 years of age, over 70 years of age, or are 65 years of age or older as of 31 December 2023.
If you are lure fishing with only one rod and lure in still waters, such as on lakes and in river pools, payment of the fisheries management fee is sufficient. You will also require an angling permit when fishing with multiple rods or lures.
Hook and line fishing and ice fishing are fully prohibited in rapids and running sections of waters with migratory fish stocks. You can refer to Kalastusrajoitus.fi (Fishing Restriction Service) to check waters with migratory fish stocks. In still waters, hook and line fishing and ice fishing are permitted free of charge with one rod. If you are hook and line fishing or ice fishing with more than one rod, you are required to purchase an angling permit and pay the fisheries management fee.
Always make sure to check the location of the permit area. Please see either the map window or the PDF map on this page. Enlarge the map window to view the location of the permit area more clearly.

Water temperature has a significant impact on the survival of salmonids after they are released. When water temperatures approach +20 °C, you should use judgement before you decide to fish for salmonids. In waters warmer than this, fishing for salmonids should be avoided. In such situations, it is advisable to focus on species that are more resistant to heat, such as zander, pike and perch. See guidelines for responsible fishing.
Making a fire in the main area of the national park is only allowed at designated sites.
Anglers and hikers are responsible for bringing their own trash and waste back from the wilderness to the eco stations. Metsähallitus has been concentrating the waste management of wilderness destinations to waste management stations, or eco stations, situated along the roads leading to the destinations. Rest stops now have fewer garbage bins and Metsähallitus has increased its waste awareness work.
The park's regulations must be adhered to at all times. More information on the rules and regulations of the Lemmenjoki National Park may be found at Luontoon.fi.
