Resident's angling permits for rivers in Northern Lapland available from 24 March
Local residents will in the future be able to purchase their river fishing permit directly through the Eräluvat.fi service. Until now, residents of Enontekiö, Utsjoki and Inari have had to order the permit by phone or at a service point.
The resident's angling permits for rivers entitles the holder to lure fishing in state-owned water areas located in the salmon and trout migration areas. The permit costs 40 euros for adults, and it can be purchased only for the salmon and trout migration areas within one’s home municipality.
The permit will be available from 24 March onwards via the Eräluvat.fi service. If the fisher cannot obtain the permit digitally, they may call Eräluvat Customer Service at +358 20 69 2424, available on weekdays from 9:00 to 15:00. As a last option, the permit can be purchased at the Fell-Lapland Visitor Centre or the Metsähallitus Customer Service Point in Inari.
For persons under 18, the resident's angling permit for rivers is free of charge, and it must be obtained either by phone or at a service point.
Residents of the Näätämö village register area must obtain their permits for the Näätämö River as well as permits issued under the Skolt Act by calling +358 20 69 2424, starting on 12 May 2026.
Salmon fishing details to be specified in spring
The terms and conditions of the resident's angling permits for rivers will be further specified later. It is still uncertain whether local salmon fishing will be permitted in the tributaries of the Teno River. In the Näätämö River catchment area, salmon fishing with a resident's angling permit for rivers will be prohibited during the upcoming season.
A Government decision on salmon fishing in the tributaries of the Teno River is expected in late spring or early summer.
