Sauna

The sauna is available for an additional fee only to those who have booked the bed in Vaarinkehuma shared rental huts. The sauna is not accessible during the thaw. Vaarinkehuma sauna is located in Salla, Tuntsa wilderness, close to Sorsatunturi Fell, along the UKK Trail. There are Vaarinkehuma two shared rental huts in the same yard (Vuotso and Sorsa).

Reservations

• Creating a user account is worthwhile. As a logged-in customer, you do not need to pay for your reservation immediately. You can also cancel unpaid reservations yourself. Create a user account.

• Notes for entrepreneurs: When a company regularly takes its customers to destinations with hiking infrastructure maintained by Metsähallitus, it must have a cooperation agreement. Read more in the information bank for entrepreneurs.

• Bring along your invoice and proof of payment.

• Make sure your friend has also paid the sauna fee.

• Tip: If you pay the sauna fee afterwards, please reserve the sauna fee in your calendar for the payment date. The sauna fee cannot be entered retroactively in the reservation system.

Arrival instructions

• In summer the sauna can be reached by hiking along the UKK Trail and in winter by wilderness skis or snowmobile along the Metsähallitus snowmobile track passing the hut. Driving a snowmobile on the track always requires a snowmobile track permit. Using snowmobile off the track is prohibited. During snowless seasons all motorized vehicles are prohibited.

• The official road ends at village Naruskajärvi, and this is the furthest point where the road is maintained in winter. Closest parking areas to the sauna are south to the crossing of Naruskan Tammi and Naruskantie roads and for a small fee in the yard of the business Tuntsan Pubi (Tuntsan ja Naruskan Tunturilomat, tel. +358 400 449 649). Always check carefully that your car is not parked on the way of a snowplow or other vehicles.

• In summer the UKK Trail can be accessed from Tuntsan Pubi by walking north the Naruskantie road about 1 km. Or, from the parking area of Naruskan Tammi and Naruskantie road crossing, by walking the Naruskantie road south about 2,5 km.

• In winter the snowmobile track can be accessed from Tuntsan Pubi or Naruskan Tammi, from where the track goes through Kotatsiaapa mire to Sorsajoki river and along the sides of the river to Vaarinkehuma.

Keys

The sauna is locked. It is available only to guests who have booked the Vaarinkehuma shared rental huts, for an additional fee. Instructions for accessing the sauna key will be sent by email with the payment confirmation for the sauna fee.

Facilities

• Heating and lighting: There is no electricity in the sauna. The sauna and washing water are heated with firewood. Bring a headlamp.

• Washing: No running water. Washing water is taken from the nearby lake and heated in a water cauldron. There are wash basins in the sauna for cleaning. Bring your own towel.

Sauna schedule

• The sauna is available for use by other shared rental guests, so you should be considerate of others and not stay too long in the sauna.

• During peak seasons you should agree bathing times with other hikers, for example, take turns between men and women at alternate hours.

• The sauna cannot be reserved for private use.
