Selkälahti and Keimiöjärvi rental huts to be withdrawn from use
The Selkälahti and Keimiöjärvi rental huts will be withdrawn from use from the beginning of 2027. The sites can be booked in the Eräluvat.fi service until 31 December 2026.
Jorŋâluohtâ / Selkälahti rental hut is located in a wilderness area of Lake Inari. Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. The hut is the Border Guard's former control point and located in the northern part of Lake Inarijärvi, on Čärbinsuálui Island on the northern side of Varttasaari Island. The hut is located at the bottom of the sheltered Selkälahti Bay and there is a jetty on the shore that is also suitable for large boats. The interior of the cabin was renovated in 2009 and it is suitable for year-round use. There is also a sauna in the yard.
A rental hut is a place for an overnight stay that can be rented for only your use.

Pay for your order by the due date. A paid order cannot be modified. Read more about the terms of reservation.
Make all reservations under the same order if you book several huts or other sites for the same trip. According to the reservation terms, the minimum refundable amount per order is €30.
Make reservations under separate orders if you book huts or other sites for several different trips. Managing separate reservations is easier, and you will receive a separate due date for each one, 14 days before the start of the reservation.

The reservation day for shared rental huts and rental huts begins at 2 pm and ends at 12 noon.
Keep the order confirmation of your paid reservation with you. Check the information related to keys in the "Keys" section (located halfway down the page).

A foreign company can place an order in the company's name only as an unregistered customer.
When a company regularly takes its customers to destinations with hiking infrastructure maintained by Metsähallitus, it must have a cooperation agreement. Read more in the information bank for entrepreneurs.

Bookings of rental and shared rental huts, as well as other sites available for booking for 2027, will open on Tuesday May 5th 2026 at 9:00am on Eraluvat.fi.

The hut sales and customer service of Metsähallitus Wildlife & Parks will be exceptionally closed April 27 and May 20.-21. At other times, customer service is open on weekdays from 9 AM to 3 PM.
The distance from Inari (where you will find all basic services) to the cabin is 40 km and approxi-mately 30 km from Veskoniemi.
The closest neighbour on the island is at a distance of about 1 km.
The Inari - Sevettijärvi snowmobile track runs at a distance of 5 km from the cabin.
In summer, you can reach the cabin by boat from either the Kasariselkä or the Sammakkoselkä side.
There is a jetty on the shore that is also suitable for large boats.

A sauna, a dry toilet and a campfire site.
The yard and its buildings are for the exclusive use of the renter.
The key is in a key code box on the site's wall. The box is protected with a code. Instructions and the code are sent to you by e-mail after the payment.
Take lock de-icer with you just in case the box's lid is stuck due to frost. Metsähallitus does not have maintenance on site.
The hut has a stove and a cast-iron fireplace firewood for heating. Please use firewood sparingly. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm.
The hut has a solar panel and a 12V socket (cigarette lighter socket), but as the sunlight decreases, its power decreases.
We recommend using a headlamp, which leaves your hands free to do chores around the hut. For safety reasons, candles must be burned on a non-combustible surface and constantly monitored.
A gas stove, a gas oven.
Attention! The hut no longer has a gas refrigerator.
During the summer season, crushed ice is available at the harbors in Nellim, Veskoniemi, Kotalahti, and Inari village.
There is no running water in the hut.
Household water is taken from the lake. It is recommended to boil water from natural sources before consumption. Water quality is not tested. Drink water taken directly from nature at your own risk.

Beds (5 pers.) on the upper platform (2 pers.) and a convertible sofa (2 pers.), mattresses, pillows and blankets.
Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag.
Sauna in a separate building, a dressing room with a stove.
There is a dry toilet near the site. Please bring your own toilet paper.
There are waste containers by the site but visitors are advised to take their accumulated waste with them.
Metsähallitus follows the principles of litter-free hiking. Visitors are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about hiking without littering (luontoon.fi).
The closest sight is a border point signifying the Treaty of Teusina.
The hut is located in a reindeer herding area, take into account the free-grazing reindeer and keep your dog on a leash.
Please clean the hut before you leave.
Although Finland has a broad network for mobile phones, there are some areas in the park without signal. If this happens try to climb to a higher place or go into an open area. Check the mobile network coverage with your mobile phone operator before your trip.
Huts are equipped with smoke detectors, but we recommend that you bring your own smoke detector. An increasing number of huts have smoke detectors with long-life batteries that cannot be replaced by visitors. The battery is replaced by the hut maintenance staff.
Each user of the site is responsible for keeping the site clean. The site does not have regular maintenance.
Please note that Metsähallitus sites are wilderness‑like and modest, and the indoor areas may contain, for example, insects, rodents, and their droppings.
