Navigation skills are needed to get to the hut. The hut is not accessible during the thaw. In winter there is no marked trail to the sauna. Härkätunturi sauna is located close to the border of the municipalities of Salla and Savukoski, in Tuntsa Wilderness Area, between Härkätunturi Fell and Härkätunturinmurustat Fell, along the UKK Trail (summer trail). In the same yard is the open wilderness hut and shared rental hut of Härkätunturi.

Reservations
Creating a user account is worthwhile. As a logged-in customer, you do not need to pay for your reservation immediately. You can also cancel unpaid reservations yourself. Create a user account.
Notes for entrepreneurs: The use of the hut and other structures for business operations requires a permit from Metsähallitus. Learn about transfer of rights of use (metsa.fi).
Bring along your invoice and proof of payment.
Arrival instructions
The sauna is accessible only by foot or by skiing. Use of motor vehicles in the area is prohibited. There are no marked winter trails to the sauna.
In summer time, there are several possible starting points from Savukoski direction, close to Tulppio. You can get by car to Tulppionkaitavaara, to the north part of Turjalaiset or Ahmatunturi. The roads are forest roads and can be in poor condition.
It is 18 km from Tulppio to Härkätunturi via the UKK-trail.
In the winter, the road is maintained to Ainijärvi, 15 km further from Tulppio, where the road ends. Please do not park your car in a way that obstructs the snowplow.
From Salla direction, you can get to the sauna by foot 23 km north from Tuntsa. You can leave the car at the Tuntsa cooking shelter near Tuntsajoki river. Please note that the road is in very poor condition.
Keys
The sauna is always open.
Facilities
Heating and lighting: There is no electricity in the sauna. The sauna and washing water are heated with firewood. Bring a headlamp.
Washing: No running water. Washing water is taken from the nearby stream and heated in a water cauldron. There are wash basins in the sauna for cleaning. Bring your own towel.
Sauna schedule
The sauna is available for use by all hikers, so you should be considerate of others and not stay too long in the sauna.
During peak seasons you should agree bathing times with other hikers, for example, take turns between men and women at alternate hours.
The sauna cannot be reserved for private use.
