Free fishing permit, Inari
Residents of Inari can obtain a free fishing permit for the areas of the three northernmost municipalities, primarily for their own municipality of residence. The permit entitles the holder to rod fishing and fishing with traps on state-owned waters, excluding salmon and trout migration areas. There are no permit quotas, which means that all residents can obtain the permit.
The permit is valid for three years. Applications for the years 2026–2028 open on 2 January 2026. Previously granted permits remain valid until then.
Verification of Municipality of Residence
Municipality of residence is verified through Suomi.fi authentication. The following information is required for the application: Finnish personal identity code, first name, surname, municipality of residence and street address. You will see this information when submitting the application after logging in through the Suomi.fi service. If any information is missing or incorrect, make the necessary correction in Suomi.fi.
Suomi.fi authentication may not work for everyone. Typical cases include situations where the disclosure of the customer’s address information from the Population Information System has been restricted, the customer has a security ban, lives in a holiday home, or attempts to submit an application on behalf of another person.
If you are unable to authenticate via the Suomi.fi service, you may submit your permit application by calling the Eräluvat customer service, or in person at the Inari customer service point or at the Fell-Lapland Nature Centre in Enontekiö.
If you wish to apply for a permit on behalf of a minor, this can only be done through customer service.
