Restoration work at Kellankoski and Kärnänkoski rapids in August
Restoration work will begin on August 1 at Kellankoski rapids, part of the Kolima–Keitele rapids route in Viitasaari. The restoration of Kärnänkoski rapids, which began last autumn, will also continue. These works will affect fishing in the area. Currently, the sale of fishing permits is paused due to high water temperatures.
The goal of the restoration is to improve spawning and nursery habitats for trout and other stream-dwelling fish species, and to ensure water flow even during low-flow conditions. At the same time, the variation in flow and depth in the riverbed will be diversified.
The estimated duration of the work is about two weeks. During the day, unnecessary movement in the area should be avoided. Fishing is possible in the evenings and at night at Kellankoski and Kärnänkoski, but the restoration work may cause water turbidity. The restoration does not affect Kymönkoski, which is also part of the permit area.
The sale of fishing permits for the Kolima–Keitele area is currently paused due to high water temperatures. Read more here.
