Syväjärvi 5525
Lake Syväjärvi is a clear-watered forest lake with two distinct sections that is located some 20 kilometres away from Kuhmo town centre. Both ends of the lake are deep and the shores are steep. The scenery is commanded by dry pine forests and the Syväjärvensärkkä sandbank rising on the north side of the lake. There is an easily traversed beach trail encircling the lake (approx. 6 km) with several campfire sites along the way.
Rainbow trout, which is planted into the lake catch-sized, offers thrilling angling experiences throughout the year. Syväjärvi is also an ideal fishing and hiking destination for families and groups.

In Syväjärvi angling permit area, the customer can choose between a 3-hour, 24-hour or 7-day permit. The prices of angling permits are as follows:

Persons under 18 years of age can buy the angling permit at half price.
Persons under 15 years of age may fish under the angling permit and within the fishing quota of an adult belonging to the same party, without needing to purchase an angling permit of their own.
A family may purchase a family permit, which costs twice as much and has a fishing quota twice as large as an individual angling permit. A family consists of children under 18 years of age and their parents or legal guardians as well as married and common-law couples.

You can pay licences using the most common payment methods in the online store (verkkokauppa.eraluvat.fi).
Metsähallitus' fishing permits may also be purchased by phone. The service is open on
weekdays from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Mobile licence
With the Eräluvat app, you can purchase angling permits easily and quickly. You can pay with a debit or credit card. Read the instructions for using the app.
As of 1 January 2020, mobile permits are no longer available. This is due to mobile network operator’s decision not to provide the current service anymore.

All visitors fishing in Syväjärvi permit area must obtain Syväjärvi 5525 angling permit. Syväjärvi 5525 angling permit grants the right for lure fishing with lure, fly or jig as well as for hook and line fishing and ice fishing.
As general fishing rights do not apply in Syväjärvi angling permit area, it is prohibited to fish there with a lure under a fisheries management fee as well as fish with a rod and line (hook and line fishing), and through a hole in the ice in wintertime (ice fishing), unless you have purchased an angling permit. The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY) has issued the decision on restricting general fishing rights.
Fishing gear and bait
Artificial and natural baits may be used in Syväjärvi angling permit area.
An angler may use one (1) rod with a single line when fishing from the shore or from an anchored boat. The rod must be held in the angler’s hand or be within reach at all times (no more than 2 metres away).
When trolling lures or flies from a rowboat and when fishing from the ice, an angler may use at maximum two (2) rods, each one with a single line.
Watercraft
In Syväjärvi permit area, the use of a rental boat or flotation device is allowed for fishing.
Electric outboard motors may be used.
The use of a snowmobile for fishing is prohibited.
Catch quotas
The maximum number of salmonid that an angler may catch is indicated in the table below:

There is no catch quota limit for other fish species.
The 24-hour catch quota cannot be increasing by purchasing several permits for the same 24-hour period.
Catch sizes and protection periods
The minimum catch size of grayling is 35 centimeters, so all graylings smaller than that must be released. Grayling is protected 1 April – 31 May.
Fishers must observe the catch sizes and protection periods mandated in the Fishing Decree for other fish species.

An easy-access beach trail of approximately 6 km goes around the lake. The trail has several campfire sites, a lean-to shelter, a hut, and a camping and caravan area.
Tips
The best fishing spots are at the ends of the lake and near the strait in the middle.
Fisheries management
The fish stock of Lake Syväjärvi is maintained by planting catch-sized rainbow trout and fry-sized whitefish and grayling into the lake.
