What does the permit entitle the holder to

All visitors fishing in Mikkelin Valkea angling permit area must obtain Mikkelin Valkea (7552) angling permit.

As general fishing rights do not apply in Valkeajärvi, it is prohibited to fish there with a lure under a fisheries management fee as well as fish with a rod and line (hook and line fishing), and through a hole in the ice in wintertime (ice fishing), unless you have purchased an angling permit. The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY) has issued the decision on restricting general fishing rights.

Mikkelin Valkea (7552) angling permit grants the right to lure fishing (lure, fly, jig), hook and line fishing and ice fishing.

Fishing gear and watercraft

Lake Valkeajärvi is divided into two sections: north and south. Different permit terms apply to each section with regard to fishing tackle and watercraft. The boundary between the two sections runs between the large and small basin, and is marked on the permit area map.

South Lake Valkeajärvi, i.e. large basin

During the ice-free period, an angler may use one (1) rod with one line. The rod must be in the angler’s hand or within reach at all times (no more than 2 metres away). The rod may not be left alone for fishing.

During the ice-free period, only synthetic lures may be used in south Lake Valkeajärvi. Bait paste, silicone balls and natural bait (e.g. worms, grubs, shrimp or bait fish) are prohibited.

Flotation device may be used in south Lake Valkeajärvi. The use of boats is prohibited.

When fishing from the ice, one angler can use at maximum two (2) rods, each one with a single line. One of these may be a passive rod (left alone for fishing). The passive rod may be no more than 10 metres away from the angler. To fish from the ice with one active and one passive rod, an angler aged between 18 and 64 years must pay the fisheries management fee.

Natural bait, bait paste and silicone balls may also be used when fishing from the ice.

One angler can use a maximum of two (2) rods, each of them with one line. Of these rods, one may be passive (tip-up). The passive rod must not be more than 10 metres away from the angler when fishing.
