Mikkelin Valkea 7552
The clear-watered Lake Valkeajärvi is located in South Savo, near the city of Mikkeli, and it is 14 hectares in size. The most sought-after fish in Valkeajärvi are chubby whitefish and rainbow trout, which is planted into the lake catch-sized 1-3 times a month. The most popular fishing methods at the lake are ice fishing in winter and fly fishing in late summer and early autumn.
Valkeajärvi has two campfire sites and a partially duckboarded trail that goes around the lake. Thanks to its accessibility and easy terrain, Valkeajärvi is the ideal destination for all kinds of fishers and nature enthusiasts.
Come catch some whitefish and rainbow trout, and once the fish has been caught, you can take in the beautiful lakeside scenery by a campfire!
Purchasing a permit
In Mikkelin Valkea angling permit area, the customer can choose between a 3-hour, 24-hour or 7-day permit. The prices for angling permits are as follows:

Persons under 18 years of age pay half price for the angling permit.
Persons under 15 years of age may fish in a party with an adult under the adult's angling permit, with the same fishing quota, i.e. they do not require their own angling permit. A person under 15 years of age who is fishing alone may obtain a free one-week permit from the Eräluvat webshop. The permit terms for paid permits also apply to free permits.
A family may purchase a family permit, which costs twice as much and has a fishing quota twice as large as an individual angling permit. A family consists of children under 18 years of age and their parents/legal guardians as well as married and common-law couples.

Metsähallitus' fishing permits may also be purchased by phone. The service is open on
weekdays from 9 AM to 4 PM.

As of 1 January 2020, mobile permits are no longer available. This is due to mobile network operator’s decision not to provide the current service anymore.

What does the permit entitle the holder to
All visitors fishing in Mikkelin Valkea angling permit area must obtain the Mikkelin Valkea (7552) angling permit.
General fishing rights (hook and line fishing, ice fishing, lure fishing under the fisheries management fee) do not apply at this destination by decision of the South Savo ELY Centre (922/5710/2014). The purpose of the decision is to secure the economic use of fish stocked into the waters of the area.
Mikkelin Valkea (7552) angling permit grants the right to lure fishing (lure, fly, jig), hook and line fishing and ice fishing.
Fishing gear and watercraft
In the summer (= open water season) anglers are only allowed to use artificial lures, the use of natural baits (worms, grubs, bait paste, silicon balls, etc.) is prohibited.
In the winter (= ice fishing), the use of both artificial lures and natural baits is permitted.
In the winter, each angler may use up to two rods and lines when fishing from the ice (one of these must be a tip-up). During open water season each angler is allowed one rod and line which must remain within the anglers reach at all times (max. 2 m away from the angler). Leaving the rod to fish by itself is prohibited.
The use of a boat or flotation device is prohibited.
Note! If you are actively ice fishing (i.e., fishing with a rod) while simultaneously having a tip-up on the ice, you must have paid the national fisheries management fee.
Catch quotas and catch reports
The size of the catch quota depends on the validity of the permit. The maximum number of fish that an angler may catch is indicated in the table below:

There is no fishing quota limit for other fish species.
A 24-hour catch quota cannot be increased by purchasing multiple licenses for the same 24-hour period.
Catch sizes and protection periods
Fishers must observe the catch sizes and protection periods mandated in the Fishing Decree.
Services in the area
The area's services consist of a 2.2 km long trail with duckboards, 2 campfire sites, a lean-to shelter and a dry closet.
Signs guiding to the lake may be found along the Mikkeli-Pieksämäki and Ihastjärventie roads.
The lake is stocked with catch-sized rainbow trout total 4 times on March and April, and every 2-3 weeks from May to October as well as before christmas.
