Latokartanonkoski 7594

The Latokartanonkoski angling permit area is located near the City of Salo, in Kiskonjoki River in Perniö. The permit area stretches out for over half kilometre in a historical, naturally beautiful and partly quite rugged scenery. The Latokartanonkoski rapids are a rare site in Southern Finland, as fly fishing enthusiast venturing here can hope to catch anything from sea trout and salmon to whitefish.

Latokartanonkoski is a perfect place to combine culture and fishing: try your hand at fly fishing to catch sea trout and salmon and take in the local history along the adjacent nature trail!

Purchasing a permit

Permits for 2024 become available on 8 January 2024 at 9 a.m.

The rapids have an 6 angler quota. Please make sure beforehand that there is enough licences left. 

In Latokartanonkoski angling permit area, the customer can choose between a 6-hour, 12-hour or 24-hour permit.

Persons under 18 years of age can buy the angling permit at half price.

Reserving the entire rapids

You can reserve the entire rapids by purchasing six individual angling permits in the web shop. To reserve the entire rapids for groups of more than six anglers, you must call the Eräluvat phone service. The maximum number of anglers per group is 10 (= 10 separate names).

The names of the people who will participate in the fishing must be provided in conjunction with the permit reservation. The group leader must be able to provide a list of names of all group members to a fishing supervisor on request.

The prices and periods of validity for the entire rapids are as follows:

If the group includes more than six anglers, the price of a permit for each additional person is the same as the price of an individual permit, in other words, 20, 25 or 35 euros depending on the validity of the permit.

Metsähallitus' fishing permits may also be purchased by phone. The service is open on
weekdays from 9 AM to 3 PM.

What does the permit entitle the holder to

Permit 7594 only allows fly fishing in the Latokartanonkoski angling permit area. Fishing is prohibited in the side channels below the mill ruins. Fishing with a lure or jig is prohibited in this permit area.

Hook and line fishing and ice fishing are prohibited in rapids and running waters where there are migratory fish routes regardless of whether the person has an angling permit or not.

Angling permit for Southern Finland (7413) issued by Metsähallitus does not entitle you to fish in the waters of Latokartanonkoski angling permit area.

Fishing gear and bait

Fishing is only permitted using flies and traditional fly fishing tackle.

Only barbless hooks are permitted.

The use of lure, jig, bait paste, silicone balls or similar as well as natural baits, such as grubs, worms, shrimp or bait fish, is prohibited in Latokartanonkoski angling permit area.

Watercraft

The use of a boat fo fishing is prohibited.

Catch quotas

All caught salmon and trout must always be released. There is no catch quota for other species.

Catch sizes and protection periods

The following catch sizes and protection periods for fish species are in effect for this permit area:

Fishers must observe the catch sizes and protection periods mandated in the Fishing Decree for other fish species.

Services in the area

There is a spacious parking area next to the rapids. Soon there will also be a toilet in the area. There is a great trail network near the rapids, and an effort will also be made to clear the overgrown Manilla trail in the future. 

Fisheries management

The number of natural fry in the river is annually followed by means of electrofishing.

A restoration plan has been drawn up for the rapids, and the planned measures will be carried out in the next few years.

There is a native trout population in Kiskonjoki River. With the aim of protecting the population, it is prohibited to catch trout in this area. The same restriction applies to salmon, which is found in Kiskonjoki River in fewer numbers. The water areas at Latokartanonkoski rapids are not stocked with brown trout, but trout planted elsewhere may occur in the area. The water areas of Kiskonjoki River have been occasionally stocked with salmon.
