The Kylmäluoma Hiking Area is located in the north-eastern part of the municipality of Taivalkoski. The area, consisting of beautiful pine ridges and ancient forests, marshes and open lakes, offers anglers two lakes that are stocked with salmonids, a high-quality camping area with numerous top-tier cabins and a visitor centre with cafe and restaurant services.
The lake Iso-Pajuluoma is located right next to the camping area and with its approximately 100 hectare surface area it is a popular fishing destination. The main catches are rainbow trout, grayling and trout, and you do not have to venture far from the shore to find good fishing spots.
The smaller Katkeimalampi is situated within a kilometre or so from the visitor centre and it is reserved solely for fly fishing. The pond is stocked with grayling and, at times, char. With luck, your fly might end up in the jaws of a grayling over 1.5 kg in size!
All persons under 18 years of age receive a 50% discount on the permits and persons under 15 years of age are allowed to share the same fishing quota, with permission from their parent or legal guardian. The family permit costs twice as much and its fishing quota is twice as large.
You can buy licences directly from the online store and pay using the
most common payment methods.
Metsähallitus' fishing licences may also be purchased by phone. The service is open on
weekdays from 9 AM to 4 PM.
As of 1 January 2020, mobile permits are no longer available. This is due to mobile network operator’s decision not to provide the current service anymore.

Kylmäluoma is a place where the angler can easily bring his or her whole family even if they are not that into fishing – there are plenty of activities to keep the others occupied from comprehensive hiking trails to tennis, badminton and mini golf.
One may also rent canoes and fishing tackle from the camping area. The restaurant at the visitor centre offers great home-cooked food for order. The services also include guided canoe and fishing trips.

To better your chances of finding fish, you should rent a boat and pack your trolling kit (even though fishing from the shore can also be very productive). During warm summer days you should try equipping your plugs with sinkers or weights, while colder waters are best fished near the surface.
Catch-sized rainbow trout and trout are planted into Iso-Pajuluoma.
Katkeimalampi is stocked with the unusual species of grayling and char.
The other small fishing waters of the hiking area are stocked with one-summer old whitefish.
