Kotala Rapids 6550

Kotala Rapids, situated in the middle of the Pihlajavesi water system on the border of Keuruu and Virrat, were restored to be more hospitable to salmonids in 1995. Kotala is located along Highway 23, 15 km into the direction of Keuruu from Virrat.

Buying a license

Permits become available on 8 January 2020 at 9 AM.

Angler quotas: Kituskoski 10 persons, Vehmas- and Koskelankoski 10 persons.

Prices:

  • €25 / 6 hours (permit can begin at midnight, 6 AM, noon or 6 PM) 
  • €30 / 12 hours (permit can begin at midnight, 6 AM, noon or 6 PM) 
  • €40 / 24 hours (the day permit always begins at 6 PM) 

Entire rapids: 

  • Kituskoski €400/ day, €300/ 12 h, €250 / 6 h
  • Vehmaskoski and Koskelankoski €400 / day, €300 / 12 h, €250 / 6 h
  • For each additional person + €40 / day, €30 / 12 h, or €25 / 6 h

Reserving the entire rapids = reserving the entire angler quota in one go. Reservations for groups larger than 10 persons can only be made via the Eräluvat service number 020 69 2424 (Mon-Fri 9 AM - 4 PM).

All persons under 18 years of age receive a 50 % discount on the permits.

When reserving a permit, all persons who are to participate in the fishing must be named. 

 

You can buy licences directly from the online store and pay using the
most common payment methods.

 

 

Metsähallitus' fishing licences may also be purchased by phone. The service is open on
weekdays from 9 AM to 4 PM.

 

Licence terms

Regional licensing terms

1.1.-31.8. and 1.-31.12.
  • Only traditional fly fishing is allowed at Kituskoski. Both lure and fly fishing are permitted in the Vehmaskoski and Koskelankoski rapids. Only one rod per angler. 
  • All fishing in the area requires the Kotala Rapids' angling permit (6550). Anglers who are 18-64 years of age should also pay the fisheries management fee. The angling permit for Southern Finland (7413) issued by Metsähallitus does not grant the right to fish in the waters of the permit area. The general fishing rights that allow hook and line fishing and ice fishing do not apply to the waters of the area. Paying only the fisheries management fee does not grant one the right to lure fish at this destination. 
  • The use of natural baits (including bait paste, etc.) is prohibited. 
  • Wading is forbidden between 1 Dcember - 15 May

Catch quotas

24 hour permit 2 planted salmonids (without adipose fin)

Once you have finished fishing, you must submit a catch report at www.tuikki.fi. All caught and released fish must also be reported. 

Catch sizes

  • A native trout (with adipose fin) must always be released regardless of its size.
  • Planted brown trout (without adipose fin) 50 cm.
  • Grayling 35 cm. Grayling is protected between 1 April – 31 May.
