Trap restrictions to protect Saimaa ringed seal

A large percentage of the trap permit area falls within the Saimaa ringed seal conservation area, where certain types of fishing gear are prohibited. This restricted area is marked on the permit area map. Familiarize yourself with the fishing regulations of the area for 2021-2026 (finlex.fi)(in Finnish).

Permits needed for fishing

Trap fishing in this permit area always requires a trap permit. You will also be required to pay the fisheries management fee, unless you are under 18 years of age, over 70 years of age, or are 65 years of age or older as of 31 December 2023.
