An unprecedented number of fisheries management fees for 2020, more than 290,000, were paid during the current Fishing Act. The profit increased by more than EUR 1.5 million compared to the previous year. Fisheries management fees for 2021 have also been paid more by now than at the beginning of previous years.
A lot of fisheries management fees were paid in Southern Finland where many waters did not freeze already during the beginning of 2020. The exceptional situation that started in March increased the demand significantly, and the demand continued to be higher all the way until autumn.
Preparations for the new fishing year have also begun on time. The fisheries management fee for 2021 became available for sale at the beginning of November, and already in November and December, it had sold more than 20 % more than in the corresponding start-of-sale months of last year.
– Fishing enthusiasm is a gratifying phenomenon and the increase in the number of permits also indicates the responsibility of fishermen, says Jukka Bisi, Director, Game and Fisheries Services at Metsähallitus.
Under the Fishing Act, a fisheries management fee must be paid by everyone between the ages of 18 and 64 who fish, except for ice fishing, angling, or using a herring rig. The fisheries management fee can be paid for the entire calendar year (€ 45), a week (€ 15) or a day (€ 6).
The fisheries management fee can be paid through the on-line at the Metsähallitus website (verkkokauppa.eraluvat.fi) at the Eräluvat mobile app, by telephone, at +358 20 69 2424, at R Kiosks, and from Metsähallitus Nature Centres.
Metsähallitus collects the fisheries management fees and passes them on to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry and the ELY Centres allocate funds for the planning and sustainable development and management of fishing waters, monitoring of fishing activity, promotion of recreational fishing, advisory services for the fisheries sector, the activities of fisheries areas and compensation to water area owners.
Fisheries management fee money for 2020 will be allocated to projects promoting the fishing industry in 2022.
