Viannankoski 7571

In the beautiful North Savonian country town of Maaninka, by the Siilinjärvi-Viitasaari road, lies the Viannankoski Rapids permit area. Viannankoski is a relatively short, easy to fish rapids section rich in fish and nestled in a cultural landscape.

The most sought-after target species are rainbow trout, which is planted in the river catch-sized, and pike-perch, which is very abundant especially around midsummer. Thrilling fishing experiences are also provided by the large ides that like to spend their days in the running water and the rarer eels, special guests who sometimes wander into the rapids.

Come to Viannankoski for a relaxing fishing trip!

The fishing and permit arrangements in the Viannankoski angling permit area will change at the beginning of 2024. Six-hour and 12-hour permits will be removed from the selection, six-person fisher quotas will be abolished and the pricing of permits will be changed. In the future, three- and 24-hour permits will be available for the area.

What does the permit entitle the holder to

Viannankoski angling permit (7571) grants the right to lure fishing (lure, fly, jig) using one rod.

All fishing in the area requires the Viannankoski angling permit (7571). Hook and line fishing and ice fishing are prohibited in rapids and running waters where there are migratory fish routes regardless of whether the person has an angling permit or not.

Angling permit for Southern Finland (7413) issued by Metsähallitus does not entitle you to fish in the waters of Viannankoski angling permit area.

Regional restrictions

Fishing from a boat, regulating dam, highway bridge, fish ladder (or its bank) is prohibited. Fishing from the western bank of the rapids is also prohibited.

Wading from the western bank is also prohibited, as is crossing the central line of the rapids by wading from the eastern bank below the road bridge (see the PDF map). The prohibition of fishing and wading on the western shore safeguards fish migrations along the fish passes.

Fishing gear and bait

An angler may use one (1) rod with a single line.

The use of bait paste, silicone balls or natural baits, such as grubs, worms, shrimp or bait fish, is prohibited in Viannankoski angling permit area.

Before fishing, please read Finnish Food Authority's instructions for fishing gear (ruokavirasto.fi, PDF, 368,85 kB, opens in a new tab).
