Karvionkoski 7561

The Karvionkoski Rapids, roaring between the large route waters of Suvasvesi and Kermajärvi, are 1.5 kilometres of pure angling bliss. Most of the permit area consists of evenly flowing waters, but one can also experience the thrill of white waters by the channel of Karvio. Karvionkoski is 50 km away from Varkaus and 70 km away from Joensuu.

The fish stocks at Karvionkoski are based on both fry stockings and natural reproduction. The fishing arrangements at Karvionkoski have changed as of the beginning of 2015 when a quota of 8 permits a day was put in place. At Karvionkoski, a lucky angler has the chance to catch a large brown or freshwater trout that has migrated into the lakes.

Protection periods have been implemented to guard the spawning of trout and salmon and the pressure on naturally born migratory fish is reduced by making the release of such fish mandatory.

Licence terms

Regional licensing terms

1.1–31.8. and 1.12.–31.12.
  • The spawning of salmon, trout and char is protected between 1.9.–30.11., during which time all fishing is prohibited.
  • Grayling is protected between 1.4.–31.5.
  • Once you have finished fishing, you must submit a catch report at www.tuikki.fi. All caught and released fish must also be reported.
  • Fishing is only permitted with artificial lures. The lure can have a maximum of three hooks: one treble hook, three single hooks or one single hook and one double hook. Barbless hooks are recommended.
  • Each angler may use one rod or line, which must remain within the angler's reach at all times.
  • When trolling without a motor, each angler is allowed 2 rods or lines.
  • The use of natural baits (including bait paste, etc.) is prohibited.
  • Fishing from a boat is only permitted in the areas above and below the rapids designated on the map. However, fishing from a motorboat is prohibited even in these areas.
  • Wading is absolutely forbidden between 1.12.–31.5. Avoid wading in the headwaters of the rapids. This gives other anglers a better chance to catch fish as well. The fish might well be feeding in the shallow shore waters, especially when it is dark.
